How can I join the choir?

Do I have to be a police employee to join the choir?

No, the choir has members from all walks of life, as well as serving and retired police officers and support staff.  Non police employees are required to be security vetted.

 

When and where does the choir rehearse?

The choir meets for rehearsals every Thursday between 7.15 pm and 9.30 pm, at Holy Family Church Hall, Bicknor Road, Parkwood,  Maidstone, ME15 9PS.

 

Do I need the ability to read music?

No, if you read music it is obviously helpful, but not a requirement to join the choir.

 

Will I need to audition?

Once you've decided to stay with us, it will be important for our Musical Director to assess your voice. This is to establish you are able to hold a tune and that you are singing in the section to suit your vocal range.

 

Is it expensive to join the choir?

The annual subscription is £120.00. Your uniform jumper, shirt and music are provided by the choir.  Smart black trousers, black socks and plain black shoes, will be your own responsibility. For further information regarding joining the choir go to our 'Join Us' page.

 

How can I book the choir for a concert?

Just speak to Geoff Fisher, our Concert Liaison Officer at any of our concerts, or email him via the 'contact us' facility on our pages.  Please note that the choir is booked very much in advance, so early contact is advised.

 

How much does the choir charge for an appearance?

The current charge is from £350.00 with special arrangements for concerts in December.  Upon request, the Secretary will provide you with written advice on organising a concert, based on best practice. (Click here to see a copy of this)

 

What type of music does the choir sing?

The choir has a wide repertoire of traditional music, songs from the shows and popular music from more recent times.
